Lukashenko: Belarus has never put obstacles to European business

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Despite the existing differences, Belarus has never put up obstacles to the European business, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during his annual address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly on 29 April, BelTA has learned.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus is interested in intensifying and bringing onto a qualitatively new level the cooperation with the European Union. “Even with the political relations being complicated, the European Union remains one of Belarus’ main trading and economic partners, a source of credit resources and investment. We are in fact a gateway to a huge and promising market of the Eurasian Economic Union. Despite the existing differences, we have never put up obstacles to the European business,” the Belarusian head of state said.

According to the President of Belarus, due to the current situation in Ukraine, Belarus has gained greater importance for Russia, the EU, and China as it remains a so-called corridor from the east to the west and from the south to the north. “What else do we need? We need peace and calm in Belarus. That is why we are in intensive talks with the European Union on the matter,” the Belarusian leader noted.
