Lukashenko: As long as people commemorate war victims they will be shielded against misfortunes

MINSK, 3 July (BelTA) - As long as people come to war memorials and obelisks to pay their respects, they will be shielded against misfortune and adversity, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the Belarusians on the occasion of Independence Day during the flower ceremony on Victory Square in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that 3 July is a symbolic day. In his opinion, the whole life of a person and even more so of a state is made of symbols. “This is the great symbolism that we see all over the country today. Here a thousand-strong procession features both the elderly, veterans, the generation of post-war years and also our youth. This is the main symbol of today. Remember, as long as we come to the memorials and obelisks together with our children, the Lord will be with us, he will always be able to shield us from misfortune  and adversity. But as soon as we forget the path to these majestic places in the history of our country, this will mean we will be in for trouble,” the president said.

The head of state urged citizens, wherever they are - in a small village, a small town, regional centers or the capital of Belarus, to always stop by tiny monuments or majestic obelisks when passing by.  “In the villages of Borki and Ola in Mogilev Oblast and Gomel Oblast, in the legendary Brest Fortress, here in the center of our capital, do not forget to come with your children and put a wildflower on these graves. We will be rewarded for this. We should  keep this path well trodden. By our actions we must prove that Belarus remembers!” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
