MINSK, 11 February (BelTA-TASS) – Moscow is convinced that the Ukraine talks will result in a political settlement, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on 11 February.

“The situation in Ukraine cannot be resolved by military means. The way to peace lies through a dialogue between the Kiev authorities and those who want to defend their land,” Sergei Lavrov emphasized.

“We should protect their rights, the rights of all those who live in Ukraine. The Greek community lives mainly in the area of Mariupol. There are also other minorities, including Hungarians, Romanians, and Bulgarians. They should have no doubts that the developments in Ukraine will conclude by a political settlement that will take into consideration the interests of Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Romanians, Hungarians, Greeks and other nationalities,” Sergei Lavrov noted.

“This can be done through a comprehensive constitutional reform, something we agreed on a long time ago; however the process has made little headway,” the Russian Foreign Minister noted.

According to Sergei Lavrov, the monitoring of the border sections controlled by the rebels should be discussed with the DNR and LNR.
