Kupala Night Festival named symbol of Belarusian culture

SHKLOV DISTRICT, 8 July (BelTA) – The Kupala Night Festival (Alexandria Gathers Friends) has become a national culture symbol, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Zharko during the festival’s opening ceremony on 8 July.

The deputy prime minister said that this large-scale art project is aimed at preserving and developing cultural traditions and enabling the mutual enrichment of cultures. The festival grows more and more popular every year and is about to become a Belarusian brand. “Today we see new guests from various countries at the festival venues,” said the official.

In his words, every year the organizers try to find and present before visitors something new. They try to show the unity of origins of the historical and cultural legacies of nations. “People of different generations and nationalities meet on the picturesque bank of the Dnieper River today. For every one of them the festival is a unique opportunity to share creative ideas and experience. For viewers it is a chance to see and appreciate their professionalism, to feel the mood and the state of the soul of the artists. It is very important to pass these traditions onto the young generation. We can see how worthily talented young people demonstrate their art and skills during the festival. Only by preserving traditions of spiritual uniqueness of the nation, we will be able to discern future, ” noted the deputy prime minister.

On behalf of the organizing committee Vasily Zharko congratulated participants and guests on the celebration. He wished them health, happiness, peace and prosperity.

Following the established tradition, the Kupala Night Festival is held in a picturesque location on the bank of the Dnieper River near the bridge that connects the village of Alexandria and the town of Kopys in addition to connecting Mogilev Oblast and Vitebsk Oblast.
