Kobyakov: Belarus aims to step up cooperation with Tajikistan

MINSK, 29 November (BelTA) – Belarus aims to boost cooperation with Tajikistan, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov noted as he met with outgoing Ambassador of Tajikistan to Belarus Kozidavlat Koimdodov on 29 November, BelTA has learned.

“We are glad to say that your work in Belarus has been a success. We are happy that our countries and heads of state were holding an active trust-based dialogue while you were representing Tajikistan in Belarus. Over this period of time, we have made remarkable progress in all fields of trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation,” Andrei Kobyakov said.

Belarus and Tajikistan are moving from regular trade to setting up joint ventures and boosting investment cooperation, the prime minister stated. A joint assembly plant for MTZ tractors was inaugurated the other day in Tajikistan’s Hisor. There are plans to co-manufacture attachments, too.

“Given our potential, the level of bilateral trade is not as high as it could be. Nevertheless, the recent dynamics show that we have very good prospects in this regard,” Andrei Kobyakov added.

He thanked Kozidavlat Koimdodov for his work as ambassador. “We understand that we have found a reliable friend who will always promote an active dialogue between Belarus and Tajikistan,” the prime minister remarked.

In turn, Ambassador Kozidavlat Koimdodov stressed that the collaboration and visits held at the highest level gave a new impetus to Belarus-Tajikistan interaction. The two countries have formed a legal framework of cooperation, which now comprises over 60 agreements. Another 10 documents are in the works. “The positive thing is that we sign not only intergovernmental or interdepartmental agreements, but also interregional ones,” the ambassador emphasized.
