MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Belarusian-American contacts meet strategic interests of both countries. Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus (KGB) Ivan Tertel made the statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Ivan Tertel said: “Belarusian-American contacts continue. The matter meets strategic interests of the Republic of Belarus and the American side. This is why negotiations are in progress. There are positive trends.”

BelTA reported earlier that on 14 October Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko hosted a government conference to discuss the global international situation and the advancement of Belarus-USA relations. The head of state stressed that there is no doubt that the policy in favor of resuming relations with the United States of America will have to be built purely in line with Belarusian interests. After all, the policy of Americans is guided only by pragmatism.

“We will await their global proposals, a big deal as they like to say. They love these big deals. We are ready for it. We are ready to sign a big deal with them. Their questions, requests, and demands are on one pan of the scales while our questions and demands are on the other pan of the scales. Should we decide? Let’s make decisions. We are ready for it. I am absolutely okay with Donald Trump’s proposals in this regard. But our interests should be taken into account as well. And everything should be honest just like we and Americans agreed at some point,” Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out.
