Iraq appreciates Belarus’ antiterrorist position

MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Iraq appreciates Belarus’ position in the fight against terrorism, Hassan Chuird Al-Hamdani, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of Representatives (Parliament) of the Republic of Iraq, said as he met with Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Viktor Guminsky on 18 December, BelTA informs.

The Iraqi guest thanked the Belarusian side for hospitality and noted that the Iraqi parliamentary delegation had planned a visit to Belarus long time ago, but due to a complicated situation in his country the visit was on a constant postponement.

“We highly appreciate Belarus’ position in the fight against terrorism and the way it supports us,” the representative of the Iraqi parliament noted.

We speak against any terrorism manifestations and support the fight against this evil. Unfortunately, our export to Iraq is only about $30 million today. It is not sufficient for the two countries. During the better years of cooperation it reached $500 million,” he added.

The Belarusian MP expressed hope that today’s meeting would help resume the bilateral contacts the two countries once had and show the prospect for the development of trade and economic relations.

On 18 December Hassan Chuird Al-Hamdani is expected to meet with representatives of the Council of the Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Healthcare Ministry and the Education Ministry. The program of the trip also envisages a visit to Minsk Tractor Works, National Library and the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.
