Integrity, humanity named main qualities for Belarusian civil servants

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) – Integrity and people-oriented management style are the main things that we expect to see in civil servants, Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova said as she spoke at the meeting with the special group of the government talent pool of Brest Oblast, BelTA has learned.

Belarus has worked out proposals for enhancing the prestige of the public service. They were announced at a meeting with the participation of the president on 26 July. “The matter is particularly about human qualities, moral principles. This is a fundamental requirement. If a person is good at working with people, if he is caring, then he will make a good public servant,” Natalya Kochanova is convinced.

“Civil servants are the people who have made a conscious choice to serve the state and people,” she added.

According to Natalya Kochanova, the performance of civil servants is thoroughly analyzed in the country, including with a glance to the world’s best practices. The head of Belarus President’s Administration invited the participants of the meeting to engage in a frank conversation in order to develop effective solutions for enhancing the prestige of the civil service.

As BelTA reported, the selection to the special group of the government talent pool was held in several stages. At first, the list of promising candidates was compiled at the level of the heads of the regional authorities. The list included 225 hopefuls. After special tests and interviews this number was reduced to 74 people under 40.
