Importance of Belarus’ CEI presidency noted

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) – Belarus’ presidency in the Central European Initiative is important, BelTA learned from CEI Deputy Secretary General Erik Csernovitz on the sidelines of the Central European Initiative Parliamentary Assembly session in Minsk on 28 November.

Erik Csernovitz noted that the CEI presidency in 2017 is the first one for Belarus and is very important. He thanked the Belarusian side for a job well done.

As the CEI presiding country Belarus is focused on promoting compatibility in Greater Europe. The motto fully matches the CEI’s main goals, among which, Erik Csernovitz stressed, is offering a bridge between the macroregions made up of the CEI member states. There are 18 of them in total. Representatives of most of them, including Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, and Ukraine, came to Minsk for the Central European Initiative Parliamentary Assembly session.

Participants of the CEI Parliamentary Assembly session in Minsk are supposed to discuss digital technologies in terms of ensuring geopolitical security. Representatives of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament, scientists, representatives of the real economy sector, including heads of leading innovative enterprises and high-tech enterprises, have been invited to attend the session. The development of digital economy is discussed taking into account information security, digital banking technologies, the adoption of organizational measures and other ones to support the development of IT products, unmanned driving, artificial intelligence, and biotechnologies.
