MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Foreign Affairs Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov explained why Poland has moved from confrontation to dialogue on border cooperation issues on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

According to the minister, Poland demonstrated “tough, practical pragmatism” to Lithuania.

“Poland is more careful with money and genuinely wants to be a predictable partner in building a very important hub on its territory – a logistics and transport hub. This is what they are striving for,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.

He noted that the purpose of the earlier confrontation at the border with Belarus was to attract excessive attention from the European Union, NATO, and their key partners in order to secure substantial financial investments, allegedly to prevent a threat from the East.

“Today decisions have been made, funds are beginning to flow and be utilized, and Poland can now gradually move away from confrontation toward building dialogue on a different level. These are very pragmatic people,” the minister emphasized.
