Foreign pharmaceutical companies show interest in localizing production in Belarus

MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – Many foreign pharmaceutical companies are showing big interest in localizing their production in Belarus, Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV channel on 12 August, BelTA has learned.

According to the minister, work is underway to ease access to the market for international medications that are not produced in Belarus or made in limited quantities. In the future there are plans to conduct a population survey to learn which medications are most in demand.

The Belarusian state pharmacy network Belpharmatsiya is busy concluding direct agreements with producers. Over the past few months the number of such agreements has soared by 55%. Belpharmatsiya acts as a state distributor. It signs contracts with the producer to supply these medications to the Belarusian market. If some medicine is in demand and we do not have it on the market, we will do our best to have it here,” Vladimir Karanik said.

Another area of work is the localization of the production of foreign manufacturers in Belarus. “We have been actively working with big international producers to provide them an opportunity to localize production at our factories, transfer technologies. We are opening our market. It will be highly competitive. Therefore, there are two options: either tough competition on the market or production localization here and a status of a national manufacturer,” the minister said.

Vladimir Karanik stressed that many pharmaceutical companies had already showed interest in the matter. “Different platforms, i.e. our factories, are considered for the localization of the production of the world-renowned brands to make their medications available for our people,” he said.
