FM: Participation in Victory Day events is sacred for every Belarusian
Vladimir Makei

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei joined the nationwide campaign Belarus Remembers. We Remember Everyone by laying flowers at the Minsk Hero City Memorial on 7 May, BelTA has learned.

The minister and representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs paid homage to those who died during the Great Patriotic War. “Every year we move further and further from those horrible times. We know about that war from people to took part in it and who, unfortunately, become fewer – our war veterans,” Vladimir Makei said.

In his words, war witnesses left behind a rich literary heritage, many works by authors from different countries. “All of them were unanimous in saying that war is nothing but death, horror, grieving and pain,” he added.

The organization of commemorative events in Belarus is of great importance for the young generation, the minister said. This is done to tell them the truth about the events of the Great Patriotic War. “This action aims to ensure that we remember and do everything we can to never make it happen again. This is probably one of the most important principles of the Belarusian state policy in general,” he stressed.

Vladimir Makei is convinced that the May parade is an important memorable event. The parade will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic corps. “The parade, like all the events on the occasion of the Victory, is a sacred thing for every citizen of Belarus,” said the minister.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also initiated a commemorative event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory. The ministry has uploaded an e-book of memory about Belarusian diplomats, war veterans of the Great Patriotic War on its website (Publications section). During the week, the employees of the ministry will share the stories about the life of their colleagues that the book tells about on social media pages. The ministry also urged social media users to share stories of their families and colleagues under the hashtag #BY75.
