European Games seen as driver behind Belarus’ investment attractiveness

European Games seen as driver behind Belarus’ investment attractiveness

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The 2nd European Games significantly increase Belarus' investment attractiveness, Finance Minister Maksim Yermolovich told the MPs on 26 June, BelTA has learned.

Maksim Yermolovich pointed to two significant benefits for the Belarusian economy from the European Games. The image effect is the most important one, according to the minister. The country is opening to a wide circle of foreign investors. “From the point of the implementation of the foreign economic policy, it is difficult to assess everything in money terms. This considerably expands the country’s investment attractiveness,” he stressed. According to the minister, thanks to the games, the budget saves big resources for the promotion of a healthy lifestyle in the country.

Another benefit from the European Games is related to an increase in trade in Minsk, revenue from tourism. This effect will be estimated later once the corresponding statistics are ready.

Almost Br540 million were used to prepare for the 2nd European Games in 2017-2019. Budget resources made up almost half of this sum, Br266 million. Budgetary funds were used to upgrade, repair and equip 12 biggest sport venues, the dormitories of the Students’ Village, purchase medical and other equipment for the social sector.
