EOC: Minsk sports venues can host top-level tournaments

MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Sports facilities of the Belarusian capital can host any top-level tournament, Chairman of the Coordination Commission of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) 2019 Josef Liba said after the meeting of the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees in Minsk on 20 October, BelTA has learned.

“I was in Minsk two years ago. Back then the Belarusian capital was already ready to host sports events of different levels. You have experience in organizing big tournaments. I am confident that the city can host any event. This year special attention is attached to the preparations for the European Youth Olympic Festival. The main issue is whether the reconstruction of Dinamo Stadium will be completed in time. I visited the facility and I am sure that it will be commissioned by 2019. The Belarusian State University of Physical Education has a wonderful sport center that features a swimming pool and a track and field arena. These facilities will also be used during the 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival,” Josef Liba said.

The meeting of the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees took place in Minsk on 20 October. The EOC Executive Committee discussed the youth sport in Europe and emphasized the importance of the European Youth Olympic Festival that was first held 25 years ago. The 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival will be hosted by Minsk. The EOC Executive Committee meeting was held ahead of the 45th EOC General Assembly which is due in Minsk on 21-22 October.
