Effective completion of current round of Belarus-IMF talks

Effective completion of current round of Belarus-IMF talks

MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – Belarus and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will complete the current round of talks effectively, BelTA learned from Belarusian First Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Zaborovsky on 29 September.

“We are working to make sure that our colleagues notice and appreciate what we have achieved. We explain to them the logic of our economic policy for the medium and long term. I think that by joining our efforts, we will complete this round of talks quite effectively,” Alexander Zaborovsky said.

He noted that both sides are satisfied with how the negotiation process unfolds. “Next week, we will attend [the IMF] annual meetings in Washington. I am confident that the meetings will further intensify our cooperation. Today we are much closer to each other than we were before,” Alexander Zaborovsky pointed out.

He emphasized that the negotiations on the new program are not a matter of one week. “We have been working since November 2015 when we entered the active phase. We carefully consider every aspect of the program in order to see a broad picture. Every detail has been carefully deliberated. The program should allow Belarus to increase the potential economic growth,” Alexander Zaborovsky said.
