Duncan: Belarus is a very important partner for Britain

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – The UK views Belarus as a very important partner, Alan Duncan, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, told BelTA on 26 September.

The UK minister stressed that he had a very pleasant conversation with the Belarusian president. During the meeting he stated that Britain considers Belarus a very important partner.

He expressed hope for further development of trade relations with Belarus and also for close cooperation in regional security.

Alan Duncan said that he and the Belarusian president spoke about the Brexit. He emphasized, however, that the UK was not leaving Europe. The UK minister added that the meeting was focused on the future prospects for developing trade relations. He stressed that it was a great honor for him to meet with the Belarusian president and the minister of foreign affairs. “I hope this will launch the next 25 years of good relations between the UK and Belarus,” Alan Duncan said.

He added that, despite the Brexit, the UK would continue playing the role of one of the world’s biggest players, including in the UN, the Nato and other organizations. The country will continue prospering as a peaceful region where all the states work together.
