Disability art festival in Mogilev to advance cultural cooperation in Belarus-Russia Union

MOGILEV, 22 November (BelTA) – A Belarusian-Russian festival of art by people with disabilities Together We Can Do More contributes to the advancement of cooperation and to the preservation of the common cultural space in the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Vasily Chernik, Head of the Central Office for Culture and Analysis of the Belarusian Culture Ministry, during the festival’s opening ceremony in Mogilev on 22 November.

The official said that delegations from all the oblasts of Belarus, the city of Minsk, and six regions of Russia had come to take part in the festival. Those are amateur music bands, individual performers, people, who are passionate about decorative arts, applied arts, and pictorial arts. They have come to Mogilev to show their skills and talents. “You are indeed very talented people. We should thank you a lot for your perseverance in bringing joy to people despite all the hardships,” said Vasily Chernik.

The official congratulated participants of the festival on the festival’s arrival in the Belarusian land. All the previous festivals took place in Russia. “We are pleased with the fact that Belarus, namely the former CIS cultural capital Mogilev, has been granted the honor of hosting the festival. We hope that the high organizational level of the event will help new talents flourish,” said Vasily Chernik.

For five days participants of the festival will demonstrate their accomplishments in various nominations such as folk singing, academic singing, pop songs, sign language singing, choreography, theater art, musical instrument mastery, poetry and bard songs, decorative arts, applied arts, and pictorial arts, original genres.

A Belarus Day and a Russia Day will take place on 23 November and 24 November respectively. A press conference of participants and organizers of the festival is scheduled for 25 November. The same day will see a gala concert Art Without Borders and the ceremony to award winners.

The festival’s founders are the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, the Belarusian Culture Ministry, and the Russian Culture Ministry. The festival has been organized by the Mogilev Oblast Methodological Center for Folk Art, Culture and Enlightenment.
