Devyatovsky: Belarusian athletes will show their best at Match Europe v USA

MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes will show their best at the Match Europe v USA which is due in Minsk in September, Chairman of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Vadim Devyatovsky told the media at the National Olympic Committee on 13 August, BelTA has learned.

“Team Europe will feature ten Belarusian athletes, eight females and two males. In selecting the athletes we focused on the ones who can be the most useful for Team Europe. I believe the results will be good,” Vadim Devyatovsky said. The chairman of the Belarusian Athletics Federation said that due to injuries Alina Talay (100m Hurdles) and Ivan Tsikhan (Hammer Throw) will not make part of the team. Maryna Arzamasova will not participate in the match either.

Belarus’ Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said that the team is promising and young. He added that the Belarusian national team performed well at the recent international competitions.

Europe vs USA match is due in Minsk, Dinamo Stadium, on 9-10 September. It is expected to feature some 350 athletes. The competitions will include hammer throw, javelin throw, discus throw, 100 meters, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 200 meters, 400 meters, 400m hurdles, 800 meters, 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, 3,000 meters steeplechase, 4x100 meters relay, mixed relay (200-200-400-800 meters), shot put, triple jump, high jump, long jump, pole vault.

The match was suggested by President of the European Athletics Association Svein Arne Hansen.
