Cui Qiming: Chinese cultural center in Minsk is ideal for cultural exchange between two countries

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – The Chinese cultural center in Minsk is a platform for cultural exchange between China and Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Cui Qiming said at a function to mark the 1st anniversary of the center on 12 December, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that on 10 May 2015 the Belarusian-Chinese intergovernmental agreement on mutual establishment of cultural centers was signed in the presence of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and China President Xi Jinping. The Chinese Cultural Center was established in Minsk a year ago, on 21 December 2016. Cui Qiming stressed that the center gets Belarusians familiar with Chinese culture, proides support in learning the Chinese language, promotes cooperation and cultural exchange, strengthens mutual understanding between the Belarusian and Chinese people.

Over the past year the center has held a lot of events, including various performances, art exhibitions, lectures, master classes, conferences on the translation of the Chinese literature. “A variety of events organized in the center have made it an excellent platform for a cultural exchange between China and Belarus. I am confident that under the Belt and Road initiative, with the joint efforts of the governments and peoples of the two countries, cultural exchanges will reach an even higher level and open a new chapter of cooperation,” the diplomat said.

Director of the National Art Museum of China Wu Weishan, who led the Chinese delegation to Minsk, emphasized the importance of developing the Belarusian-Chinese cooperation. “Over a short period of time the center has managed to tell a lot about the rich history of China, which has absorbed a variety of cultural traditions,” stressed Wu Weishan.

The Chinese cultural center has held many interesting events not only in Minsk, but also in the regional centers, including the event entitled Happy Spring Festival 2017 in Belarus. The State Song and Dance Theater of China's Gansu Province has toured Belarus.

The events also included the traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, photo exhibitions, lectures, meetings with Belarusian and Chinese artists, and seminars.

The cultural center set up with the support of China will continue promoting an active cultural exchange between the countries.
