Cooperation with South Korea named among Belarus’ priorities in Asia

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – Belarus views cooperation with South Korea as one of the important avenues of its foreign policy in the Asian region, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Dapkiunas noted at an event marking South Korea’s National Foundation Day, BelTA has learned.

The deputy minister reaffirmed Belarus’ commitment to strengthening fruitful cooperation with Korean partners. “This year marks the 25th anniversary of Belarus-South Korea relations. It is safe to say that Belarus and South Korea have made a lot of effort to promote cooperation virtually in all fields,” Andrei Dapkiunas underlined. “Despite the long distance between us, we constantly find new opportunities for mutually beneficial partnership. This is natural since Belarus and South Korea have a lot in common. Throughout our history, our nations have aspired to peace and harmonious development through diligence and zeal. In the absence of rich mineral resources, the economic success of our countries has been based on human resources, well-developed industry and technologies,” the deputy minister noted.

Andrei Dapkiunas also drew attention to considerable potential for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. “We will do our best to exploit this potential,” he said. Andrei Dapkiunas also stressed that nowadays South Korea is among the world leaders in economic development. The country also carefully preserves its unique culture and traditions. “South Korea is well-known in the world not only for the brands of large corporations but also for the especial beauty of Korean music and dance, the unique flavor of Korean dishes. It is symbolic that this year South Korea’s main national holiday coincides with Chuseok, the most favorite folk holiday of Koreans,” the deputy minister added.
