Cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Rostov Oblast viewed as promising

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – Cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Rostov Oblast holds much promise, Governor of Russia's Rostov Oblast Vasily Golubev said during a meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 11 May, BelTA has learned.

“We have always known that our cooperation has an enormous potential. It is good that business has also started to acknowledge it lately. This is the shortest way to achieve results and success,” the governor noted.

According to him, the delegation of Rostov Oblast that is currently on a visit in Belarus comprises quite a few members of the Rostov Oblast administration along with major businessmen. They discuss the prospects of practical cooperation with the Belarusian partners.

Vasily Golubev drew special attention to cooperation in industry and agricultural engineering. These fields will be reflected in the new action plan on cooperation for 2017-2019. “There is a possibility to boost cooperation, co-produce new types of agricultural equipment, and occupy the niches currently available in the Belarusian and Russian markets,” Vasily Golubev noted.

The meeting with the Belarus president was also dedicated to the cooperation in the processing of agricultural products. “It is evident that the existing capacities processing particular kinds of agricultural products are not sufficient. We could collaborate with Belarusian scientists as well as agricultural manufacturers. Such contacts would be of mutual benefit for both sides,” Vasily Golubev remarked.

There is a demand for Belarusian equipment in different sectors of Rostov Oblast. They include construction and housing and utilities sector. In anticipation of 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia Rostov Oblast plans to buy additional passenger vehicles.

“Plans to provide new conditions for air service between Rostov and Minsk were on the agenda of the meeting, too. Specific instructions have been given to complete this task. Our representatives are about to start working towards this objective,” the governor said following the meeting.

“Currently the trade between Belarus and Rostov Oblast is around $339 million. This figure is not a limit. We can scale it up to $500 million by 2019,” Vasily Golubev summarized.
