GOMEL, 30 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Mexico should expand trade contacts, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Mexican States to Belarus Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno said in an interview with the ONT channel, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about cooperation in economy, Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno noted that the bilateral trade is till insignificant. “We are facing an important commitment to scale up the bilateral trade and to bring together businessmen of the two countries,” she said.

The diplomat believes that agriculture is another promoting area for cooperation. “Belarus boasts a well-developed agricultural sector, while Mexico is starting to play a bigger role in global agriculture. Our exports of avocados and limes are increasing. These are quite common products for us, but they are exotic here. Belarus is well known for its farming technologies, equipment and machinery of its own make. We are looking for investment opportunities,” Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno emphasized.

Mexico’s most advanced industries include car making, aircraft engineering and electronics. “You are an open market. And we see an interesting gateway to the market of the Eurasian Economic Union. In its turn, Mexico trades with some 50 countries,” she noted.

Apart from that, the diplomat seeks closer engagement in politics, culture and education.

When asked about visas, Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno said that Mexico is trying to make visa processes more flexible. For example, if Belarusian nationals have visas to Japan, Canada, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, or the Schengen visa, they can stay in Mexico as tourists for up to 180 days.

Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno noted that she associates Belarus with vyshyvanka.
