Brand new economic sector emerging in Belarus

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – An absolutely new economic sector is being created in Belarus, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk noted during a roundtable discussion at the lower house on 25 April, BelTA informs.

Entrepreneurship development was among the key economy-related topics mentioned in the Belarus president’s State of the Nation Address of 24 April, Boleslav Pirshtuk remarked. The head of state urged the MPs to actively implement Decrees No. 7 and No. 8 on entrepreneurship promotion and digital economy development. The adoption of these documents has become an important step for Belarus, the deputy speaker stressed. “An absolutely new sector for economic development is emerging in the country,” he underlined.

The traditional economic model related with the real sector will keep improving at the same time. The parliament is set to play an important role in this process. In the end, teamwork should help achieve the goal set by the president: hit the $100 billion GDP target by the end of the next five-year period. “This is a challenging task. We must redouble our effort to reach this target,” Boleslav Pirshtuk pointed out. In his words, however, the main goal is to increase the well-being and living standards in Belarus.

The roundtable discussion at the House of Representatives is organized by the Standing Commission on Economic Policy. According to its Chairman, Vladislav Shchepov, the MPs have been exploring the practical aspects of putting into practice Ordinance No. 7 together with related ministries, government bodies, and business unions. They exchange experience to indentify and deal with the problems that slow down the implementation of the document. The MPs also hope to get some recommendations to be used in lawmaking and in districts.
