Belarusian vocational training practices lauded by WSI president

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ experience in the development of vocational training is important for the international community, Simon Bartley, President of WorldSkills International (WSI), said as he met with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

As WSI President, Simon Bartley is set to “use Belarusian vocational training practices to demonstrate to the neighboring countries and the international community that there is not much difference between graduates of universities and vocational schools.”

“This should be a comprehensive and consistent process. I am confident that Belarus’ experience in this field is useful not only for the countries of the CIS, but also for the entire international community,” Simon Bartley stressed.

Today in Belarus there are 158 vocational education establishments and 118 secondary professional education institutions, including 12 private ones. The training of specialists is adjusted to the demand on the labor market. Some 72,200 Belarusians are currently enrolled in vocational training programs, and 121,300 people study in secondary professional education programs. As many as 74,400 of them are subsidized from the state budget, and 46,800 pay for education themselves.

Belarus was the second country in the CIS after Russia to join WorldSkills International. It became member of the organization in 2014.

WSI is an international organization established in 1946. It promotes vocational education, qualifications and skills and works to attract young people into the production sector.
