MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) - The Council of the Republic opened its third extraordinary session on 3 August. The senators, among other things, decided to hold a joint session of the both houses of the Belarusian Parliament to hear the annual address of the president to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly, BelTA has learned.

“The Belarusian leader never hushes up problems, speaks about them openly, proposes solutions. The address is a road map for work for government bodies, public organizations, business entities and for every citizen,” Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said when opening the session.

“The address outlines the main areas of work to ensure economic growth, public security and law and order, social security, to solve demographic and other problems, strengthen Belarus' international positions,” the head of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament added.

Attention to the address is traditionally high in the society. “Addressing his fellow citizens with a keynote speech, the head of state analyzes the state of affairs, formulates the most important tasks and goals of social and economic development for the future,” the speaker said.

She noted that today is a difficult time. “Indeed, the difficulties have not spared us but we did not let them to stop the economy, to disrupt our usual way of life. Thanks to the competent decisions of the head of state, coordinated actions of the authorities and selfless work of our citizens, especially healthcare workers, we were able to take control of the epidemiological situation and minimize its impact on the economy,” Natalya Kochanova noted.

She described the upcoming speech of the head of state as a landmark event. “Its main target audience is the people of Belarus, the only source of power and a carrier of sovereignty. People will soon elect the president of our country. In fact people will determine the future of our independent state,” Natalya Kochanova is convinced.

She expressed confidence that the citizens of Belarus will make the right choice and will vote for the stability and evolutionary development of the state in the political, economic and social areas.
