MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – The Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives calls on MPs to work with non-governmental organizations in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, chairman of the commission Andrei Savinykh told journalists, BelTA has learned.

On 23 April the commission reviewed the draft recommendations following the workshop “Priorities of international parliamentary cooperation for Belarus in the context of the formation of a multipolar world” which was held in early March. “We want to call on the standing commissions and MPs to cooperate with non-governmental organizations that work in environmental protection, gender equality and many other areas related primarily to the Sustainable Development Goals,” Andrei Savinykh said.

The Parliament together with the National Agency for Investment and Privatization and the local authorities needs to look for interesting investment projects. “The MPs could not only prepare these projects but also pitch them to their inter-parliamentary cooperation partners and guide them to a point when they are successfully implemented. These are important things that will enable us to work more substantively in the interests of the society and the country,” the MP added. He noted that the projects may be about setting up new modern enterprises in the regions. Literally every region needs to upgrade existing enterprises or to set up new ones. Work for the future is the main priority of inter-parliamentary cooperation,” Andrei Savinykh stressed.
