MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry and the State Police of Latvia demonstrate mutual readiness to advance relations between the two agencies to the next level, BelTA learned from Belarusian Internal Affairs Minister Igor Shunevich.

The Belarusian internal affairs minister met with a delegation of the State Police of Latvia led by its chief Ints Kuzis on 4 October. Igor Shunevich introduced Vladimir Zakharchuk, the official representative of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry in the Embassy of Lithuania, to the guests. Vladimir Zakharchuk will have to advance cooperation with colleagues from law enforcement agencies of Latvia, Estonia, and Poland among other things.

Igor Shunevich said that the meeting demonstrated the mutual readiness to deepen friendly and business relations between the two agencies. The introduction of the post of the official representative of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry in the Baltic states and Poland will make them more systemic. It will help look for new avenues of cooperation in law enforcement affairs. “I am pleased to note the expansion of practical contacts between our agencies,” said Igor Shunevich. “The organization of regular conferences of police personnel of the two countries confirms it. These meetings represent a consequent continuation of the complex of measures taken by the central police departments and departments in bordering areas to counteract crime. The Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry is open to and ready for a dialogue about all matters of mutual interest.”

In turn, the foreign colleagues invited top Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry officials to participate in the celebration of the 100^th anniversary of Latvian police in December 2018.
