MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) - Belarus need to increase the export of high-tech products to the European Union, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich told the media ahead of the business meeting on Belarusian-Lithuanian cooperation, BelTA has learned.

“We would like the EU to be our full-fledged big partner. We need to bolster the share of high-tech goods in our exports to the EU. This is an important issue that we must address. So far this share has been insignificant. If we increase it, we will be able to gain a foothold in the EU market, harness new opportunities for industrial cooperation and upgrade our own production facilities more actively,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.

He stressed that the trade and economic relations between Belarus and Lithuania are well-developed: “The trade figures are good. Our exports exceed imports. We would like it to be this way with the European Union. We view Lithuania not only as a partner but also as a member of the European Union. Today's meeting is an opportunity for Belarusian enterprises to examine the possibilities and instruments of cooperation in promoting their products to the market of European Union,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.

Attending the business meeting are representatives of about 70 Belarusian and order 30 Lithuanian companies. The agenda includes the issues related to the current economic situation in Lithuania and other EU countries, the EU trademark regulations, the EU certification system, the tools of financial support of export of Belarusian companies.
