MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia are working to advance to a new stage of cooperation in the Union State, Vladimir Semashko, Ambassador of Belarus to Russia vested with the authorities of deputy prime minister in charge of Belarus' activities in the Union State and relations with Russia, said as he attended the Day of Multinational Russia in Minsk on 8 June, BelTA has learned.

In December this year Belarus and Russia will mark the 20th anniversary of the Union State. A rather long way has been passed and now the partners need to take stock of the progress made over the two decades and develop approaches to moving on within the Union State. This task is addressed by the governments and ambassadors in cooperation with the Standing Committee of the Union State. “The process is not smooth. However, we know that we should break new ground,” Vladimir Semashko said.

He pointed to the importance of events like the Day of Multinational Russia that took place in Minsk on 8 June. He reminded that Belarus and Russia are approaching a momentous event – the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev thanked the municipal authorities for the opportunity to arrange the Day of Multinational Russia in Minsk. He expressed hope that Belarus-Russia relations will serve as an example to other states.

The Day of Multinational Russia festival stretched out in the Upper Town and near the Palace of Sport.
