Belarus president suggests restarting relations with West from clean slate

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – Belarus is open to cooperation of equals and friendship with Western countries, the USA, and the European Union. Alexander Lukashenko made the statement in his speech on the occasion of his inauguration as the Belarus president on 6 November, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said: “Nothing prevents us from letting go of our past and restarting the relations from a clean slate. We are ready for it and expect our Western partners to be equally ready.”

Alexander Lukashenko noted with satisfaction that good prospects have emerged recently.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, the unity and the sense of purpose of the Belarusian nation, its openness and friendliness, the lucidity of the policy pursued by the Belarusian government have compelled the West to look at Belarus from a different angle. “The West has recognized us as a respectable partner,” noted the President. “We welcome such movement in this area.”
