Belarus president pushes for faster assimilation of digital technologies in economy, social sphere

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – It is necessary to faster introduce digital technologies in the economy and the social sphere. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he met with top officials and executives of the city of Minsk on 7 July, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that Minsk objectively sets the trend in many modern areas of activities. For instance, the Minsk-based Hi-Tech Park exported over $2 billion worth of services in 2019. The park is home to over 800 companies that employ dozens of thousands of people. “And all of them are Minsk residents, who feed their families and, as you know, they feed them well,” the Belarusian leader noted.

“But it is necessary to faster introduce digital technologies in the economy and the social sphere. We’ve decided to build an IT country after all. Where should we do it if not in Minsk? New information technologies mean a smart city, services, and public security. The city’s development will stop without those. It is an invariable requirement: everything should be convenient and comfortable for people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

At the same time the president warned that information technologies are a good thing but in many spheres the technologies cannot fully replace people for now. Those spheres need attention as well.
