Belarus president expects IT company to produce practical results, develop export

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – The information technology company in the Military Academy should produce practical results, including promoting their products for export. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he visited this particular unit of the Belarusian army on 22 February, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “We need results. It may either die due to the lack of demand and the lack of results or become a very good seed, which will take root and produce a good result. This is why we cannot let this initiative perish. Certainly, it should primarily work for the army. But it is necessary to create a product, which can also be sold. You should sell it not only on the home market but foreign ones as well as export.”

Alexander Lukashenko gave instructions to leave the after-tax revenues from the export of IT services in the academy and the army unit as a way to offer an additional incentive.

“Everything must be done to prevent this idea from perishing early on. Closer cooperation with the Hi-Tech Park is advisable. They will help and should help,” added the Belarusian leader.

The head of state was informed in detail about what the IT company does, how personnel are selected, and what projects it implements.

BelTA reported earlier that the information technology company (as an army unit) is supposed to develop system software and applied software together with units of the Military Academy and other research and education institutions. The unit is supposed to preserve the human resources potential when IT specialists are enlisted for the military service. The IT company is expected to focus on developing utility applications in the spheres of robot technology, radio location, radio navigation and radio electronic warfare, telecommunications and communications, automated control systems, computer modelling, army logistics, information systems.
