Belarus president calls for serious dialogue on transparency in Olympic movement

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – It is time for the international sports organizations to start a serious dialogue on ways to make the Olympic movement more transparent and fair, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko noted at a meeting held on 13 April to discuss the development of winter sports, BelTA has learned.

“It is time for a serious conversation in the international sports organizations on ways to make the processes going on in the Olympic movement more transparent and fair. Let us see where we can do it better. We need to take more advantage of the channels of interaction available to us to bring forward our official position,” Alexander Lukashenko underlined.

He recalled refereeing scandal with Belarusian freestyle skier Anton Kushnir at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. “This was a scandalous situation. We must not keep silent. If we fight and speak up, everyone will see the Belarusians are better left alone,” the head of state said.
