Belarus’ MFA welcomes gradual normalization of relations with EU, USA

MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus welcomed the step-by-step normalization of the relations between Belarus and the EU and the USA, reads the review of Belarus’ foreign policy and the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2015 posted on the website of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BelTA has learned.

“The step-by-step normalization of the relations with the European Union and the USA has been reinforced by the suspension of the restrictive measures in relation to Belarus, which helped intensify contacts at various levels,” reads the review.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned Belarus’ continuing active participation in the projects of the Eastern Partnership (EaP). A new EaP taskforce has been created as a result of the efforts to promote Belarus’ initiative to harmonize the digital markets of the EU countries and the member states of the Eastern Partnership initiative. The cooperation with the EU in technical aid, including within the framework of the national indicative program of activities for Belarus and the EU transboundary cooperation programs Lithuania-Latvia-Belarus and Poland-Ukraine-Belarus, has been increasingly vibrant.

"Bilateral contacts with European countries established on the basis of pragmatic cooperation in different fields have also been strengthened,” the review reads.

Belarus and the United States continued the joint constructive search for opportunities for further normalization of the dialogue. "Trade, economic and scientific cooperation has been actively developing, humanitarian contacts have been expanding. Bearing this progress in mind, Belarus would like to see the normalization of relations with the United States turn into a sustained process,” the review reads.
