Belarus maintains ongoing dialogue with Lithuania over NPP project

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection maintains an ongoing dialogue with Lithuania over Belarus’ NPP construction project, Belarus’ Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Khudyk told a press conference in BelTA’s press center.

“We maintain an ongoing dialogue with Lithuanian environmentalists, government agencies, the public about Belarus' NPP construction project. The process is not easy. We are striving to convince the public and officials of Lithuania that Belarus' NPP is reliable. Most advanced technologies have been applied in its construction to ensure safety,” Andrei khudyk noted.

He noted the desire of the Belarusian side to cooperate with Lithuania. “This is an environmentally clean energy. We need to cooperate in this regard,” the minister.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
