Belarus lauded for honoring its EEU, CSTO obligations while bolstering ties with West

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – Belarus honors its obligations in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) while bolstering ties with the West, and Russia appreciates that, Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said during the joint meeting of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 22 November, BelTA informs.

“We appreciate that our Belarusian friends take into account their obligations in the EEU and the CSTO while building the dialogue with the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization” Sergey Lavrov said.

The minister added that Russia welcomes Belarus’ intention to bolster contacts with the Council of Europe and to expand the participation in the legal framework of this organization. “We are ready to continue consultations on the topic of the Council of Europe in order to promote the fulfillment of the Action Plan Belarus 2016-2017 which has been recently approved by the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers,” he stressed.

The parties are planning to discuss Belarus-Russia cooperation in the UN system and other international organizations, the collaboration with the European Union and the Council of Europe, the alignment of integration processes, and also the measures to counter attempts to falsify history and review the outcome of the Second World War.

The parties are expected to sign a resolution of the joint meeting and the plan of ministerial consultations for 2017.
