Belarus, Iran need to strengthen cooperation in transport, logistics

MINSK, 7 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Iran need to strengthen cooperation in the transport and logistics sector, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with Iran’s parliamentary delegation on 7 September, BelTA has learned.

“I believe we need to discuss the ways to strengthen cooperation in the transport and logistics sector,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

The chairman of the Council of the Republic also noted the interest in expanding regional cooperation between Belarus and Iran. The two states also need to discuss issues related to science, education, and humanitarian contacts.

Belarus views Iran as an important partner, Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed. He expressed confidence that the current visit of the Iranian delegation would give a significant impetus to inter-parliamentary cooperation and interaction in the areas of mutual interest. “A year and a half ago we signed a memorandum of inter-parliamentary cooperation. I believe that all the issues included in this document are still relevant,” the head of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament said. The task is to work out mechanisms for their implementation. Today the leaders of inter-parliamentary friendship groups are expected to sign the corresponding document.

The Iranian delegation met with the chairman of the Council of the Republic and Speaker of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko at the National Library in Minsk on 7 September.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation is on an official visit to Belarus on 6-8 September. The delegation is led by Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Larijani.
