Belarus, Iran explore opportunities for cooperation

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Iran are constantly exploring the opportunities for cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus Mostafa Oveisi said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel on 18 March, BelTA has learned.

The diplomatic relations between Belarus and Iran were established 25 years ago. To this date, 18 March, the two countries have achieved a lot in the bilateral relations, the ambassador said. “The diplomatic relations between Belarus and Iran have been evolving. They can be safely described as good and fruitful. The two sides exchanged high-level visits and other visits to discuss cooperation in different areas: political, economic, commercial, and healthcare. And during the time that I have been here, I have made every effort to build on the achievements of my predecessors in this position with a view to further expanding the relations between Iran and Belarus,” the diplomat said.

The ambassador called trade and economic aspect as one of the most important in the relations between the two countries. Ambassador Mostafa Oveisi recalled that the 14th session of the intergovernmental commission on economic issues was held less than two months ago. Tehran hosted a large delegation from Belarus, representatives of various industries headed by the industry minister. A number of documents was signed. Iran is known for its oil and gas industries, and it is very important to develop cooperation with Belarus in this field.

The ambassador took note of the project in the energy sector. “We have delivered two batches of oil to Belarus and are ready for further, more active cooperation in the field of petrochemistry. Belarus has very good technologies in the industry, highly-qualified specialists, and equipment,” the diplomat said.

The states are constantly exploring the opportunities to boost cooperation, the ambassador said. Over the past 25 years, very good joint projects have been implemented in energy, mining and exploration. Belarusian specialists help with the maintenance or repair of power plants.

The diplomat considers the document to delivery electric buses which was signed following the session of the Iranian-Belarusian commission as important for the industrial sector. "In metropolitan areas such as Tehran, there is an air pollution problem, and we intend to use environmentally friendly transport to mitigate it. Belarus can offer good options. Thanks to the support of the authorities of our countries, the project has great prospects,” Ambassador Mostafa Oveisi said
