Belarus hailed as attractive destination for investment
Suma Chakrabarti

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Belarus is an attractive destination for investment, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti told journalists in Minsk on 6 February, BelTA has learned.

Of course, I will recommend people to invest in Belarus. Because, speaking from the EBRD 40-year experience of work in new developing markets, I know that this market is on the point of “booming”. I believe that Belarus has reached the point when it is ready to boom, and it is safe to invest in it, Suma Chakrabarti said.

Suma Chakrabarti’s term as the President of the EBRD expires in July 2020 and he has no plans to be re-elected again. However, he noted that he intends to return to Belarus, not as the EBRD president, but as a private citizen.

Because I believe in Belarus. The country has a great potential, and the role of the EBRD and some other institutions is to maximize this potential. When coming to Belarus as a private citizen I will be able to not only visit Minsk but also see other sights of the country, Suma Chakrabarti noted.

The head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development also commented on the proposal to name one of the motorway in Belarus “Chakrabarti”. It was a great surprise for me to hear the proposal voiced by the president. Of course, it is not for me to decide on this. Belarus will make the decision, he said.
