Belarus encouraged to broadly advertise national IT capabilities

MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Belarus should more broadly advertise its IT industry capabilities. The statement was made by Sebastien Dakin, Regional Director of the Ottawa and Montreal chapters of the Canada Eurasia Russia Business Association (CERBA) before a Belarusian-Canadian business forum began in Minsk on 27 September, BelTA has learned.

Sebastien Dakin said: “Belarus and Canada should continue working together in IT industry. The IT industry in Belarus is very strong but Canadians are scarcely aware of the fact. You should better advertise your capabilities in this sphere. Events like today’s business forum help invigorate cooperation.”

Other promising avenues of Belarus-Canada cooperation include agriculture and manufacturing. “Canadian companies make equipment for farms. Belarus has access to European equipment. We have something to offer, too,” explained the expert. “We are starting to think about ways of making products in Belarus in order to further develop the market of Europe and Eurasia. All quality Belarusian products can be exported to Canada. We just have to find out which areas are the most promising ones.”

Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich confirmed the strong potential for cooperation of the two countries and for increasing the trade turnover. “Canada is a country with a well-developed manufacturing sector. Belarus has huge opportunities. It is the first Belarusian-Canadian business forum in history. The fact speaks volumes. We are seen as a potential partner in the area of the production sector and new technologies,” he stressed.

The Canadian delegation includes representatives of seven large companies such as the telecommunications company BlackBerry. Over 50 Belarusian companies are supposed to take part in the business matchmaking session. “Our interest is simple. We can work to master the technologies Canadian partners have. They can help us get access to financial resources as part of joint projects. We are opening a new page in our economic cooperation,” concluded Vladimir Ulakhovich.
