Belarus concerned over U.S. intent to withdraw from INF Treaty

Belarus concerned over U.S. intent to withdraw from INF Treaty

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus is concerned over the U.S. intent to withdraw from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty), Anatoly Glaz, Head of the Information and Digital Diplomacy Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told a press briefing, BelTA learned.

“The intent of the United States to withdraw from the INF Treaty cannot but cause regret and concern. Such a move would inflict a considerable damage not only on regional security but also global strategic stability,” Anatoly Glaz noted.

According to him, all issues related to the INF Treaty must be dealt with at the negotiating table through dialogue. “We urge to refrain from making hasty decisions that might lead to serious consequences. Moreover, in the year of the 30th anniversary of the treaty's entry into force, it would be make sense to make every effort to strengthen it. The launch of a discussion about involving even more countries to the treaty could become an important step,” Anatoly Glaz noted.

According to Anatoly Glaz, Belarus is a party to the INF Treaty and stays fully committed to its obligations under the document. “We consider the document as one of most important tools of international security which eased tensions on the European continent and will continue to do so,” he stressed.
