Belarus-China cooperation accelerated by exchange of top-level visits

MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) – The exchange of top-level visits in the last two years has created a powerful impulse for accelerating Belarus-China cooperation. The statement was made by Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Nikolai Snopkov in an interview with representatives of top Chinese mass media on 2 December, BelTA has learned. The representatives of top Chinese mass media visited Minsk in anticipation of the 25th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and China.

Nikolai Snopkov drew attention to the fact that the leaders of Belarus and China regularly meet, exchange opinions about the most important items on the Belarusian-Chinese agenda, including the joint construction of the One Belt, One Road infrastructure as well as international affairs. It is the friendship and trust between the two heads of state that contribute a lot to active bilateral contacts, believes the Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration.

Nikolai Snopkov described the state visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Beijing in September 2016 as momentous. During the visit after negotiations with China President Xi Jinping the sides decided to take the bilateral relations to the next level — the level of trustful comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation. China maintains the extremely high level of relations only with four countries. Now Belarus is one of them.

Apart from that, Nikolai Snopkov said he believes that the September 2016 visit of Alexander Lukashenko to China needs to be discussed in connection with the state visit of Xi Jinping to Minsk in May 2015. Back then decisions of great importance for the bilateral relations were made, too. Back then the China President described the project to build the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone as the pearl of the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative.

The Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration answered a number of questions of the Chinese mass media. The questions were related to the current state of bilateral cooperation and prospects. Belarus’ strategic role as part of the new Silk Road was mentioned as well as the opportunities, which are opening up due to the implementation of the concept.

Besides, the foreign reporters met with representatives of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone as well as with representatives of the Chinese companies that work in Minsk.
