Belarus’ CEC about municipal elections: High voter turnout, proper organization

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The elections were held in an organized manner and the voter turnout was high. Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina made the statement as she commented on preliminary results of the voting process on 18 February, BelTA has learned.

Lidia Yermoshina said: “The elections were held in an organized manner with a high voter turnout. Voter turnout was rather high during the early voting period: 35% is quite a lot.”

As far as violations are concerned, no elections have been held without them, said the CEC chairwoman. For instance, voters in Bobruisk, Mogilev Oblast received invitations intended for another electoral district. “Because electoral districts in towns and cities are fairly small. Their borders are marked with individual houses and alleys. There can be one electoral district on one side and another one on the other side. Adjustments were made,” she said.

Belarusians will be able to learn preliminary results of the elections on 19 February. “I hope we will post the main figures regarding the largest councils, at least individual persons, this night. Reporters and voters will be able to see them early in the morning,” said Lidia Yermoshina. The Minsk City Council of Deputies and the oblast councils of deputies were mentioned. The total number of elected deputies will be known, too. Detailed tables listing the social standing, education, age, demographic parameters and genders of the elected deputies will be revealed later because the Central Election Commission will have to verify them.
