Belarus attaches great importance to cooperation with Turkey

MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) – Belarus devotes great attention to the development of relations with Turkey, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a meeting with Minister of Forest and Water Management of Turkey Veysel Eroglu on 27 July, BelTA has learned.

“Turkey is our most important partner in the region and we pay great attention to the development of relations with your country,” Vladimir Makei stressed.

On 26-27 July, Minsk is hosting the 9th meeting of the Belarusian-Turkish joint intergovernmental economic commission. According to Vladimir Makei, Belarus believes it to be an efficient instrument in promoting comprehensive cooperation and views it as an important step in the practical implementation of the agreements reached at the head of state level between the two countries.

“The previous meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held four years ago. The decisions approved during that meeting have been implemented. This resulted in the increased mutual trade, intensified investment cooperation and expanded legal framework,” the minister added.

The participants of this year’s meeting are set to discuss important measures to step up bilateral cooperation and sign the corresponding documents. According to Vladimir Makei, the protocol of the meeting will be used as a so-called midterm roadmap to bolster cooperation between the two countries. “We, Belarus, are, first of all, determined to secure a strict control over the implementation of all the agreements that are to be reached,” the diplomat said.

Belarus is also hosting a meeting of the Belarusian-Turkish council of business cooperation and a business forum during the visit of Veysel Eroglu. “We believe that these events will add momentum to the all-round cooperation between our countries,” the Belarusian minister stressed.
