Averyanov: Belarus is reliable, responsible border protection partner for Poland, EU

MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – Belarus remains a reliable and responsible partner for Poland and the European Union in matters of border protection, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Poland Alexander Averyanov said in an interview with the Swiat Elit magazine, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The volatile situation in the region and the migration crisis in Europe affect the relations between the two countries. “The situation encourages us as neighbors to double our joint efforts in the fight against illegal migration, international terrorism, drug trafficking, and trafficking in human beings. We have always been and remain a reliable and responsible partner for Poland and the European Union in matters of border protection, because we understand that even the leading world powers are unable to address the present-day challenges and threats alone. Europe is our common home. The recent barbaric attacks in Paris and the downing of a Russian passenger plane over Egypt which shocked the entire world showed us that only together and in solidarity can we counter terror,” Alexander Averyanov noted.

Poland has recently had parliamentary elections, and the Belarusian side hopes that the positive dynamics in the bilateral relations, their gradual development in the spirit of good-neighborliness and mutual respect will continue. “It is important not to lose what we have achieved over the recent years, especially in those fields that are of interest both to Belarus and Poland. These include economy, cross-border and interregional cooperation,” the diplomat said. He believes that the bilateral trade and investment cooperation should become the priority areas for further development of relations. Belarus and Poland should continue to exchange business delegations. The chambers of commerce and industry should not be the only agency to organize such exchanges. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs should be actively involved in the process.

Active work with representatives of the business community continues. Economy-related events are regularly organized in Belarus and in Poland with participation of the Polish Chamber of Commerce, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Polish-Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “Of course, all these efforts would not have brought good results if our business communities had not been actively involved in the process. Belarusian and Polish businessmen are increasingly interested in developing cooperation and using the benefits of Belarus’ membership in the Eurasian Economic Union,” Alexander Averyanov pointed out.
