Ananich: Information Ministry will study OSCE ODIHR recommendations
GOMEL, 17 February (BelTA) – The Information Ministry of Belarus will take a close look at the OSCE ODIHR recommendations to improve the election process in Belarus, Belarus’ Information Minister Lilia Ananich told media in Gomel on 17 February. She took part in the final meeting of the main department for ideology, culture and youth affairs of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.
The representative of the Information Ministry will make part of the group of experts to analyze the OSCE ODIHR recommendations. “We will look closely at the proposals which have been developed,” the minister said. First of all, it will be the positions on the information support of election campaigns. “For us it is of crucial importance that these recommendations fit in with our common constitutional tasks and the rights of every citizen. It is also important for our country, sovereign Belarus, to have the right to form its information space,” noted Lilia Ananich.
If we analyze the work on the information support of the election campaign, we can say that it is held in the full observance of the people’s constitutional right for full and true information, the minister stressed. “We have everything necessary for the national information field which provides everyone with the right to express their opinion as well as to gather and distribute information,” she said.
It is also proved by the fact that during all the stages of the election campaign no complaints were submitted to the Information Ministry and the Central Election Commission on the violation of rights. “We worked transparently. The right to be heard was exercised by all the candidates for the post of the head of state,” Lilia Ananich added.
