Ambassador: Interpersonal relations contribute to atmosphere of trust between Belarus, Israel

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) - Shared past of the Belarusian and Jewish peoples, interpersonal ties are an important factor contributing to the atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding in bilateral relations between Belarus and Israel, Ambassador of Belarus to Israel Vladimir Skvortsov said at the opening of the conference on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the death of the first Israel President Chaim Weizmann (scientist-chemist, native of the Belarusian town of Motol), BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

The fates of Belarusians and Jews have closely intertwined over the centuries of shared past on the Belarusian soil, the ambassador said.

Speaking about the Belarusian period of the life of Chaim Weizmann, who graduated from Pinsk non-classical secondary school, Vladimir Skvortsov stressed the importance of these years for the choice of future professional and social activities of the outstanding countryman. In addition to Chaim Weizmann there were many famous natives of Belarus among the prominent politicians of Israel, the diplomat said.

Representatives of Tel-Aviv University and Weizmann Institute of Science emphasized the merits of the famous native of Belarus as a scientist-chemist who took part in the development of artificial rubber, smokeless powder and high-octane fuel. It was also noted that Chaim Weizmann played an important role in the founding of the State of Israel.

The event hosted by Tel Aviv University was attended by representatives of this university, relatives of Chaim Weizmann, Israeli students.
