Ambassador: Belarus-UK relations have been evolving positively

MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – The relations between Belarus and the UK have been evolving positively, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UK to Belarus Fionna Gibb said in an interview to the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The ambassador considers it to be an honest relationship. “We are glad that Minister of State for Europe and the Americas of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Alan Duncan visited Belarus in September 2017. This is a historic event. The visit was followed by a visit of Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei to London in late March. This is a sign that we will continue developing our relations. I hope that in the near future we will exchange visits at a higher level,” said Fionna Gibb.

The diplomat noted that she has been in Belarus for more than two years and she has a positive impression of the country. The ambassador stressed that Belarus has a talented, energetic and creative young generation of programmers, engineers, and linguists. “I was amazed at the level of English among students I spoke with,” the ambassador added.

Fionna Gibb also emphasized the beauty of the Belarusian nature. “Just recently, I have ridden some 120km on a bike along Grodno Oblast and Brest Oblast, and has visited the Belovezhskaya Pushcha. I also visited Miory District and the Berezinsky Reserve. The nature here is amazing. I have not been to the Braslav lakes yet, but I am planning to go there this summer,” the British diplomat said.
