Zubrenok center to host youth forum on SDGs

MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian national children's education and recreation center Zubrenok will gather some 150 children aged 14-16 from across Belarus for the forum "Innovations of Teenagers and the Youth for the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals" on 14-15 August, BelTA learned from the organizers of the forum.

Participants will be divided into 17 teams to focus on one of the Sustainable Development Goals and develop an idea for the project to achieve it. These will be the projects in nature protection, gender equality, quality education, good health and wellbeing, reduced inequalities, protection of rights of persons with disabilities and others. Ideas will be presented to experts: the national SDG coordinator, the UN coordinator in Belarus, heads of the UNICEF, UNDP and UNFPA in Belarus, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Education Ministry.

The forum will comprise three educational discussion panels entitled as Know!, Discuss!, and Act!, and also a roundtable session where young SDG ambassadors will present their proposals on involving the youth in SDG achievement.

The main objectives of the forum are youth capacity-building, knowledge enhancement about SDGs, leadership capacity development for the successful achievement of the global goals. This will help tap into the potential of innovations, creativity and energy of young people in the search for solutions to respond to modern challenges within the country, regionally and worldwide.

The large-scale event will celebrate International Youth Day (12 August) and the 50th anniversary of the Belarusian national children's education and recreation center Zubrenok.

The forum is held as part of the UNDP/UNICEF/UNFPA project to support the SDG architecture in Belarus.
