Volunteers for Junior Eurovision 2018 in Minsk to be trained in November

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – Volunteers who will work at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will receive training in early November, BelTA learned from deputy director general of Belarus 1 TV Channel, executive producer of the contest Olga Salamakha.

“Minsk Arena will be the major venue for the Junior Eurovision 2018 final show. Delegations will be housed in President Hotel. We will tell volunteers in detail what their duties will be and show them how to communicate with delegations, mass media and participants of the contest. Our guests will be offered a diverse entertainment program, so volunteers should be ready to provide any kind of assistance to them any minute. Volunteers will have a very busy schedule,” Olga Salamakha said.

About 300 young people have volunteered to work at the Junior Eurovision. Applications will be accepted till 25 August. The BRSM Youth Union assists the Belarusian State TV and Radio Company is organizing the event. The application form is available on the BRSM website and in the VK group Volunteers of Belarus. BRSM is holding first meetings with candidates and plans to create a databank of volunteers by 5 September. After that the Belarusian State TV and Radio Company will select 100 applicants. “We will talk to all the candidates, including in English, and will determine what kind of work is of interest to each of them,” the executive producer of the contest said.

Belarus will host the Junior Eurovision for the second time. This year a record high number of participants will take to the stage. “Representatives of 20 countries will take part in the show. We hope that they will enjoy the contest and their stay in Belarus. Our task is to make their experience in our country as pleasant as possible, so that they will want to come back again,” Olga Salamakha said.

According to BRSM activist Olga Satsiuk who represented Belarus at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2003, the work volunteers will do is demanding and important. “It is right that the selection criteria are tough. Young people should be involved in such international projects, because they offer invaluable experience, an opportunity to meet new people and show themselves. I worked as a volunteer at numerous contests and festivals, and this was a great starting point that helped me in my career,” she noted.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will take place in Belarus on 25 November. The event is organized by the National State TV and Radio Company that is the country’s only member of the European Broadcasting Union.
